Cape Town also known as the Mother City within South Africa is the southernmost city on the African continent and is hugely popular with digital nomads, especially during the European winter when the hunt for sunshine drives nomads towards warmer climes such as Cape Town, Mexico and other such winter sun destinations.
Digital Nomads or Global Circlers as we prefer to call them tend to flock to Cape Town between November and March which is the high season and the time to enjoy the best of Cape Town. Of course, it’s also when it’s most crowded and expensive so some digital nomads may prefer to go during off-peak times as well.
When in Cape Town, where should you go with your laptop when you need to get some work done? Below we have curated a selection of cafes and other locations where you can rock up with your laptop, find free WiFi and get your work done whilst enjoying top-notch coffee, tea, breakfast and brunch and of course good vibes!
Beware of load-shedding in Cape Town!
One important thing to be aware of in Cape Town is load shedding. This is a system where power is shut off during certain times in certain areas in order to distribute electricity more evenly and this of course can mean no power for your laptop and no internet unless you have mobile data. When in Cape Town do make yourself familiar with load-shedding schedules and so avoid being in places with no power. Many places do have power generators that kick in during the load-shedding period. You can check the official load shedding schedule and get more info > here.
The laptop-friendly places are listed in no particular order and we do update this page. If you would like to recommend laptop-friendly cafes to work in Cape Town you can suggest them in the comments section at the bottom of this page
